MOSER PARTNERSHIP JOURNEY:
Growth
Scale Your Business with Right-Sized IT Solutions and Services
How Do You Describe Business Growth?
Business growth is not just described in the dollars and cents of revenue. Leading and working at a healthy, growing business feels exciting. There are enthusiastic customers to serve, new talent being hired and onboarded, and a reputation to uphold. Every day might feel like a blur in the best way possible.
Though these emotions are relatively universal, no two businesses grow along the same trajectory. At Moser Consulting, we understand that IT managed services and solutions must be tailored to each business. This is how our clients achieve their growth goals on their terms!
What technologies can impact the growth of a business? We address IT needs and risks like these during all business growth stages:

What Are the 4 Types of Business Growth?
The four types of business growth are organic growth, strategic growth, internal growth, and growth through partnerships or mergers. Yes, you might find overlap between the types. But thinking about them separately can refine a focus on the growth strategy framework necessary from your IT infrastructure.
Organic Business Growth
Businesses focused on organic growth are expanding the offerings of goods and services. This might require a new website to showcase the offerings, more servers to handle increased traffic, or even the development of an application where customers can self-serve their key needs.
Strategic Business Growth
Businesses focused on strategic growth are identifying new markets for their existing goods and services. This might require advanced data analysis for customer personas, continuing education to upskill employees, or a migration to software that meets unique regulations specific to the new audience.
Internal Business Growth
Businesses focused on internal growth are determining how their current resources could be used better. This might require the implementation of new methodologies like Agile, a commitment to more data-driven decision-making, or a revitalization of the network structure.
Business Growth Through Partnerships
Businesses focused on growth through partnerships are pursuing unique benefits that come with outside expertise. This might mean outsourcing IT managed services completely, or collaborating with a vendor to stand up and support an existing internal team.
What Are Examples of Business Growth Through Technology?
Sometimes it’s easier to think about growth strategies with examples. Here are some stories of our work with past clients pursuing two different business growth strategies.
Internal Business Growth
Moser helped a large health benefits provider improve the response time and accuracy of an internal software portal. The purpose of this tool was for patients and providers to access medical information from many different records systems. After we helped modernize legacy code and delivered other services, the client achieved a 50% or greater reduction in response times across all service calls. Along the way, we also helped the client’s internal team migrate to a hybrid waterfall development model.
Organic Business Growth
Moser led a project to design and develop a customer self-service portal for an industry-leading transportation client. Customers needed real-time access to a large amount of data about equipment leases and rentals. We leveraged data from five different sources to mask the complexity of integrating GPS, contract data, payment history, and more into one application. The client’s customers were quickly able to find what they needed, resulting in more confidence and trust in the brand.
What Are the 5 Stages of Growth for a Business?
The five stages of growth for a business are existence, survival, success, take off, and maturity. The examples above reflect our work for later-stage companies, but technology is relevant from day one.
1.
Existence
In this early stage of a business, the owner may be the sole employee or part of a small team. Most startups today rely on technology for everything from marketing to remote work. Even if your company is not a tech company, IT will play a role in the launch and operations. Outsourcing IT during this and other early stages can allow a sole proprietor to access enterprise-level solutions for only a portion of the cost.
2.
Survival
Once a brand and concept has proven viable, it’s time to survive and scale. In this phase, technology helps a business stand out from the competition. If your business is able to achieve key efficiencies through automation, those benefits pay down to customers and fuel growth. Data analytics unlocks powerful insights, informing the company of the next best steps. Risk management and digital security practices can also be essential differentiators in this phase.
3.
Success
The growth from survival mode to success mode is not linear. Many businesses go through seasons of cyclical revenue or are impacted by trends in the economy. Still, success grows as more employees come on board to lift duties off company leaders. Along with these new roles comes new needs for technology to get the work done. Staff also needs efficient IT support and troubleshooting, as well as training when new tools are introduced.
4.
Take Off
In the take off phase of business growth, a company is looking for what’s next on the horizon. This could be new locations, new products, acquiring competitors: anything to increase market share. Technology remains essential, but needs to be rapidly-scalable and adaptable. Some businesses might look into developing custom applications that meet their exact needs, while others pursue integrations between different tools that are already on the market.
5.
Maturity
Mature businesses have achieved recurring financial gains. They are thinking about how to manage these and other resources. The goal is usually to keep growing, but with a mind toward longevity versus pure expansion. For these businesses, technology and security are essential to maintain reputation. Companies must also continue adopting new technologies to keep up with emerging competition.
